Très répandu chez les Ojibwés, les Innus et les Cris, le rite de la « tente tremblante » permet aux chamans de communiquer avec le monde invisible des esprits. Campé dans un futur fictif postapocalyptique, The Speaking Tent réinvente un nouveau langage qui s’inspire de la théorie du chaos observée dans la nature. Composée de projections en boucle et d’échantillonnages sonores, l’installation multimédia intègre objets urbains, sculptures miniatures rotatives et outils technologiques déconstruits et reconstruits. Alimentée par une trame narrative multilingue – anglais, français, japonais et cri – l’installation performative est manipulée en direct par ces nouveaux chamans contemporains.

In the “speaking tent” ritual widely practised by the Ojibwa, Innu and Cree, medicine-men communicate with the invisible spirit world. Set in a fictional post-apocalyptic future, The Speaking Tent as envisioned by Emi Honda and Jordan McKenzie invents a new language inspired by chaos theory as observed in nature. Composed of looped images and sound samples, this multimedia installation incorporates urban objects, miniature rotating sculptures and deconstructed and reconstructed technology. Accompanied by a multilingual narrative soundtrack—in English, French, Japanese and Cree—this performative installation is manipulated on-site by these new contemporary shamans.
